Waterwatch Cooperative cooperates closely with a number of academic and business partners who have networks in over 60 countries. Partners support the Waterwatch Cooperative in different ways. GEODAN and SAP make their techniques and experiences available, UTZ is currently working with the Waterwatch Cooperative on certification projects in Ghana, Indonesia and Turkey. It is a rapidly growing group which focuses on building high-level support among governments, policymakers, international organizations and businesses. Data Science Center at Tilburg University aims to unlock insights hidden in large data sets and to assist society and businesses with translating these insights into action to solve complicated problems. Data science is a multidisciplinary scientific field, with a large role for computer science and mathematical and statistical techniques, as well as human-technology interaction, social sciences and legal and ethical aspects. Data Science Center at Tilburg University combines these areas of expertise and is based on a strong tradition of quantitative and technical research skills. Current changes in the ‘system earth’ will have a profound impact on the future standard of living. Most prominently, climate and energy are the themes of great and immediate concern, with widespread bifurcations in fields such as the availability of water and food, global warming and its effects on sea level and weather intensity, but also on the most effective exploration and exploitation of the Earth’s subsurface resources. In all these fields, it is evident that the Earth is a system in which oceans, solid earth, atmosphere, land cover, and cryosphere interact in complex ways and on many possible scale levels. Delft technical university is frontrunner in its efforts to understand, predict and exploit system Earth by focusing on this interaction, via observations and modeling. At the department of Geoscience and Remote Sensing Delft technical university studies planet Earth in all its facets, using state-of the art satellite and earth-based sensors. Fundamental disciplines such as geophysics, geodesy and atmospheric sciences are the core competences of Delft University which are valuable for Waterwatch Cooperative.
TU/e is a leading university in data-science that combines both scientific and technological depth with multi-disciplinary width. This includes competences ranging from the data driven business development competences up to competences in the domain of law, ethics and privacy. The set of competences involves a.o. Mathematics & Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Innovation Sciences, Electrical Engineering and Industrial Design. The core competences can be grouped in three competence clusters, i.e., “Data Analytics”, “Enabling Technologies” and “Context Analytics”. When addressing real-world data like vegetation database facilitated by Waterwatch Cooperative the Eindhoven technical University challenges a strong interaction between these knowledge clusters in order to find appropriate solutions.
Achieving sustainable food security is a major challenge. The vision of Wageningen University is to integrate biological knowledge to analyze and design sustainable production systems for crops focused on resource use efficiency and equitable management of natural resources. The Plant Sciences of Wageningen University are linked to a sector that is very important to the international economy. WUR covers all aspects of crop production, ranging from plant breeding and the development of methods to the production of food. The Plant Sciences programme has been designed to help meet the worldwide demand for scientific expertise in the development of plant and crop production and farming systems. It covers next to technological aspects of crop production, also deals with important environmental, quality, health and socio-economic aspects. Interdisciplinarity is a hallmark of the programme that is in line to what Waterwatch Cooperative aims to achieve.
Ambassadors of the Waterwatch Cooperative take part in brainstorms and activities of the Cooperative. Because of their stature and different networks, they are able to promote the Cooperative. From 1997 to 2001 Mengelers was President & CEO of Neways Electronics International. From 2001 until 2014 he was with TNO (Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research), where he was appointed as Chairman of the Board of Management on 1 April 2008.
